ASA has excellent weather resistance, good processability, chemical resistance and balanced mechanical properties, But there are also disadvantages of poor heat resistance and cold resistance, which limits the application of ASA in certain fields. Therefore, it is necessary to modify it appropriately.

ASA has excellent compatibility with other polymers and can form alloy materials with a wide range of properties.

1. Heat-resistant modification

Using methyl styrene to replace all or part of styrene monomer, heat-resistant ASA can be prepared, and the heat-resistant temperature can reach 110~115°C. However, the heat-resistant ASA made by this method has poor fluidity, yellowish color, poor gloss, and brittle products.

By blending SMA and ASA, the heat-resistant temperature can be increased to a certain extent.

Using N-phenylmaleamide (NPMI) monomer to replace all or part of styrene monomer in copolymerization, high heat-resistant ASA can be prepared, with heat-resistant temperature up to 120°C, which is currently the best heat-resistant Modification method.

2.ASA/AES alloy

It can improve the cold resistance of the resin and meet the requirements of low temperature resistance.

3.PC/ASA alloy

The blending of PC and ASA can improve the heat-resistant temperature and impact strength of ASA. The alloy has better stress cracking resistance, low temperature resistance, weather resistance and notch sensitivity than PC, and its tensile strength and flexural strength are equivalent to PC.

4.ASA/PBT alloy

The compatibility between ASA and PBT is not good. Compatibility agents PMMA, MBS, SMA, etc. must be added. The alloy can greatly improve the processing fluidity, chemical resistance and scratch resistance of ASA, and improve the dimensional stability, weather resistance and toughness of PBT. ASA/PBT alloy is particularly suitable for the production of large-scale thin-walled products, such as car bumpers, business machine housings, and laptop computer housings.
